I've read several books recently, and these are a few I would recommend...
He Restores My Soul by Jennifer Kennedy Dean
A Forty-Day Journey Toward Personal Renewal
I had not read anything by Dean before and really enjoyed this. Reading this was a refreshing embrace from my Father.
That's My Son by Rick Johnson
How Mom's Can Influence Boys To Become Men of Character
This is a great book about raising boys. It has great practical advice, as well as celebrates the differences between the way God designed boys and girls.
A Place For Skeptics by Scott Larson & Chris Mitchell
A Spiritual Journey For Those Who May Have Given Up On Church But Not On God
This book was a great read. I didn't agree exactly with everything in this book, but am grateful to have read it. I think the church too often admonishes for having doubt or questions. I believe it is through searching for answers and studying God's word that He reveals Himself in an even deeper way.
Gum Geckos & God by James S. Spiegel
A Family's Adventure in Space, Time, and Faith
This book is so much fun. Each chapter is based around a question that one of Spiegel's young children have asked about God. Spiegel shares actual conversations with he and his wife and their young children regarding theology at a very simple level. He then expounds on a much deeper level the same theological lessons he's learned as an adult. Loved it.
Sacred Pathways by Gary Thomas
Discovering Your Soul's Path To God
If you enjoy taking personality inventories, this is a spiritual version that Bryce and I both found very helpful. This book helps show you how you connect with God on the deepest level.
Spiritual Disciplines Handbook by Adele Ahlberg Calhoun
Practices That Transform Us
This is an excellent book. Calhoun discusses seven basic areas of spiritual discipline and desire. The book is then broken down into several practices under each of these seven areas. Each practice is packed with scriptural backing and provides many practical exercises to deepen your relationship with God.
Completely Irresistible by Shannon Ethridge
Drawing Others to God's Extravagant Love
This is the 4th in a series of 30 day devotionals Ethridge has written. This one is wonderful and exactly what I desire to be doing everyday.
